Mission & Platform

Mission Statement :: amended March 24, 2011

The International Party is based on real solutions to bridge divides between all students. We are a practical party, not stuck on ideology. We will strive towards initiatives that provide all students with greater accessibility to their studies in a more inclusive and participatory environment supported by a transparent council that engages with you, and not without you. We believe in a university based on opportunity and equality. We have the goals and the knowledge to make it happen.

Every student from every campus deserves to have the same access to information and the same level of representation as those students studying at Frescati. With no activity at university there is no participation, without any participation there is no activity. TIP will work with all parties to ensure that 2011-2012 marks the beginning of greater and more engaging university. The International Party is not exclusive, but all inclusive. We are here to create social connections between all students at university. The International party’s commitment focuses on establishing an inclusive community.

If you find yourself asking: what is actually going on at SUS? Why don’t we ever see our representatives? Why don’t we ever receive news? What have they done for us lately? How much money are they playing with? What goes on during their meetings? We’ll help to answer all of these questions, and bring the Union back in Stockholm University Student Union.

Click on the links to learn more about some of the creative ideas which we will encourage in council when elected. We believe in introducing fresh ideas to the University. Ideas that can be molded and shaped into functioning plans. Below you will learn more about our plans, why we feel the goal is particularly important, and how we wish to get the job done.

A) Internationalization
We think that an inclusive campus is an accessible campus with equal opportunities to access information, events and services for both Swedish and international students.  Therefore, Stockholm University should embrace its cosmopolitan student body and strive to bridge gaps across ethnicities, income levels, language skills, genders, ages, academic disciplines and interests.  We believe that all students should have equal access to all forms of information, and we will therefore work to enact the following measures:
o   Work to improve beginners’ courses in the Swedish language (TBA)
o   Improve on-campus job opportunities for all students (TBA)

B) Social and Communications
We believe all students should be part of an inclusive environment that allows each to explore extra-curricular activities and social events.  The student union should be more visible and engaged with student culture, and will therefore work to implement the following measures:
o   Bring back student parties and highlight those that exist (TBA)
o   Improve clubs and council services
o   Development of a consulting service to promote student engagement initiatives (TBA)

C) University Services
From the start of academic year 2011-2012, the student body of Stockholm University will consist of both paying and non-paying students.  We fear that these labels may inspire an atmosphere of inequality.  We believe all students deserve the same services and the same quality of education regardless of their status, as well as equal opportunities to grow academically, personally and professionally.  Therefore, we will work to enact the following measures:
o   Form a committee that oversees education quality during the 2011-2012 academic year
o   Host monthly library tours in both Swedish and English (TBA)

D) Accommodation
We believe that decent, affordable and accessible student accommodation to be a fundamental necessity and a right.  Students deserve to have a working system in place to find housing through SSSB and alternative means.  Therefore, we will work to implement the following measures:
o   Assist in providing temporary housing for students at Stockholm University who are new to the city (TBA)

E) Financial
The students should work collectively with businesses and the university administration to improve accessibility for all students at Stockholm University.  We believe that students should have the right to discounted public transportation throughout the calendar year rather than just the school year, and we believe that campus bookstores should become more affordable.  Affordability will lead to greater student equality.  Therefore, we will work toward the following measures:
o   Establish a student-run cooperative for items important to students, like books and food (TBA)

F) Environment
We believe Stockholm University should be on the forefront of sustainable environmental policy.  Therefore, we will work toward the following measures:
